1973
In 1973 we were just a few new believers meeting for a bible study in Pastor LaPietra's apartment. By the end of the year we were led to a small chapel on Thompson Street in Wilkins Township that became the first home of Faith Bible Baptist Church. We pulled our meager resources together and bought the dilapidated structure for $1,500. The building would need a lot of work, love and prayer.
"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established." Proverbs 16:3
1974
On October 13th, 1974, we opened the doors for our first Sunday service. The Church grew rapidly from that point as we obeyed the Lord's command and honored His Word in sharing the message of Christ's salvation with a lost and sinful world. The converted began to assemble to hear the clear uncompromising message of repentance and remission of sins through the power of the cross.
As the Bible commands we went out to the "highways and hedges" with our bus ministry. W were soon faced with the dilemma of where to put everybody. We began to pray for God's direction
"And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." Luke 14:23
1978
But a few hundred feet from that tiny chapel stood the Gilmore School. As God would have it in 1976 the building was placed on the market for the highest bidder and our $20,100 offer was the winning bid. This would answer the immediate space problem but would also provide us with the perfect location to launch a new ministry. Faith Christian School began classes in September of 1978.
1980
Though the school solved some parking issus and could house the Sunday school and children churches, out small church building was just no big enough to handle the crowds. It was 1980 when we saw the Ridgemont Country Club was for sale. This would be a perfect answer for us, located just up the street with nine acres of land, adequate parking, and a large dining room that could be converted into an auditorium. With faith and zeal we went to work and transformed the country club into a church and even sanctified the swimming pool.
2023
Many wonderful additions have been made since that miraculous beginning in 1974 but the message has remained a constant and the faithful hand of the Lord has never failed us. To GOD be the glory!
